About Speech Stuff

We started Speech Stuff because
families deserved better

Founded by Julie Cota, Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and Advanced Sensory Integration Practitioner — Speech Stuff was built around a simple belief: every child deserves to be understood, not just assessed.

OUR STORY

Why we exist

Julie founded Speech Stuff after years of working in the NHS and seeing the same pattern repeat: families waiting too long, receiving too little and being left to navigate complex systems without support.

She set out to create something different — a joined-up, neuroaffirming service where autism assessment and speech therapy sit alongside each other, in a space designed for children, delivered by specialists who have time to genuinely know each family.

What makes us different

We’re the only clinic in the North East combining private autism assessment, SLT and sensory integration under one roof — with the same team throughout.

Our values

Neuroaffirming. Child-led. Transparent. Honest. These aren’t just words — they shape every decision we make, from how we design our clinic space to how we write our reports.

OUR APPROACH

Neuroaffirming, strengths-based practice

Everything we do is grounded in the understanding that neurodivergent children are not broken — they are different. Our role is not to change children, but to understand them and support them.

Strengths first

We always start with what a child can do, not what they can’t. Strengths inform our approach and go into every report we write.

Total communication

We support every way a child communicates — not just speech. No child should be without a voice because one channel is difficult.

Family-centred

Parents and carers are partners, not bystanders. We invest time in coaching, explaining and equipping families to support their child.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Things parents often ask us

Are you regulated?

Yes. All our therapists are registered with the RCSLT and HCPC. We follow NICE guidance and are affiliated with ASLTIP. All clinicians hold a current enhanced DBS certificate.

Do you work with NHS teams?

Yes. We share our reports with NHS teams and can contribute to MDT meetings. Private therapy complements rather than replaces NHS care.

How is Speech Stuff different from a large agency?

We’re a specialist clinic, not a staffing agency. Your child works with the same therapist throughout. We have the time to genuinely know your family.

Can I talk to someone before committing?

Yes — our free 20-minute call is exactly that. No commitment, no forms, just a conversation.
